Geisinger making Epic, Cerner work together for population health

Geisinger Health System, an Epic shop, has chosen to integrate Cerner's HealtheIntent  platform. In particular, the Pennsylvania vertically integrated care delivery system, often compared to Kaiser Permanante, uses the Data Syndication, HealtheEDW, HealtheRecord, and HealthRegistries products from the platform.

Shared Decision-Making

[This article was originally published in <a href="http://ift.tt/1MLns9f">Healthcare Quarterly, 12 (Special Issue)]</a>  Shared decision-making has been called the crux of patient-centred care and identified as a key part of change for improved quality and safety in healthcare. However, it rarely happens, is hard to do and is not taught - for many reasons. Talking with patients about options is not embedded in the attitudes or communication skills training of most healthcare professionals. Information tools such as patient decision aids, personal health records and the Internet will help to shift this state, as will policy that drives patient and public involvement in healthcare delivery and training.

Patients Lack Access to Digital Health Communication Tools

Many Americans lack access to or awareness of digital health tools, such as text appointment reminders and patient portals that can increase communication with their healthcare providers, according to a survey by The Council of Accountable Physician Practices (CAPP) and Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC). The survey also found most physicians don’t recommend using these digital tools, according to the consumer respondents.
